Meet cut-e at our symposium on "The Changing Nature of Assessment in a Digital World"

Digitization has the potential to lead to major changes in the area of psychometric testing: behaviour while completing an online assessment or an online game, or more generally, while browsing the web can be used to infer personality or attitudes. The same is true for spoken or written language. Artificial intelligence and machine learning play a key role here. The purpose of this symposium is to give an overview of some of the new technologies that are likely to have a great impact on psychometric testing. We will look at gamification, paradata, artificial intelligence (AI), and natural language processing (NLP). Contributions at the symposium:

  • The paper by Warszta and Siemsen will provide a conceptual framework for game-based assessment (GBA) that can be used for research.
  • The paper by Justenhoven presents two studies that show the potential and challenges of using paradata.
  • The paper by Preuss addresses how and why AI allows for analyses of behaviour when using the www and other analyses.
  • The paper by Lochner explores where the so-called natural language processing (NLP) technology is currently at.
