How to Proctor an Online Assessment

The typical assessment journey will include a consent page where candidates must confirm agreement to being proctored. The setting allows clients to choose if proctoring is mandatory, i.e. if candidates who have not consented will be given access to the assessments without being proctored. Following the consent agreement, candidates will be taken to a reference photo page where candidates can view the photo taken and confirm its submission. This photo acts as a baseline for comparing subsequent photos.

Candidates proceed to the assessment hub where a photo is taken during the transition from hub to instrument and, once the instrument has been completed, another photo is taken when transitioning back to the hub.

Why Remote Proctoring is Important

Aon wanted to better understand students' perception of proctored assessments. It carries out an internal research study based on data from over 30,000 students and reported that:
 
  • 6.52% of unproctored assessment participants were reported to have a moderate likelihood of 'cheating' based on the Aon's remote proctoring technology. Only 2.25% of those in a proctored assessment setting were reported this way.
  • Similarly, 0.07% of unproctored assessments were shown to have a high likelihood of 'cheating' compared to 0.02% of those in a proctored setting.
  • 19.4% of those completing unproctored tests switched away from the active test window at least once. Only 12.3% did this in the proctored assessments.
